If you lose
files or if specific files become corrupt, you can retrieve
backed up copies from the Data
Center . Retrieve is different from Heal
in that you use it to simply retrieve one or more
specific files instead of recovering your entire system.
During a Retrieve, the Agent downloads these files from
the Data Center in encrypted format and then decrypts
them once they are on your computer. The Agent can retrieve
files to their original locations on your computer or
to other folders that you specify. By default, the Agent
retrieves
the most recent version of the file recorded in
the Data Center , but you can also retrieve
older versions .
Depending on your Agent configuration
, you could also have the following additional
options for retrieving files:
| (a) |
Retrieve
files via CD . To use this feature, you must first
order your account CD
from Support - |
| |
The
time required to retrieve
data or
heal your system
can vary depending on the amount of data
want to retrieve. When retrieving large amounts
of data using a dial-up connection, it is often
more efficient to order
your backed up files on CD , and have the
CD shipped to you (your Agent must be configured
to allow this feature). When you receive
the CD, you can then retrieve
the appropriate files from that CD .
Based on your
Agent's preferences, the Agent can prompt you
to order a CD-ROM if the restoration is estimated
to take longer than a specified amount of time.
By default, a projected retrieval time of longer
than 2 hours will generate a prompt asking you
if you'd like to order a CD-ROM. However, you
can change this time
setting . |

Retrieve
files through iRoam , which is a Web-based application
through which you can access your backed up files.
To use iRoam, the Data Center to which you back
up files must support and run the iRoam software
(contact Support if you are not sure if this feature
is available). Additionally, your account
must be enabled for iRoam.
iRoam is an
optional service that enables you to retrieve
your backed up files from a Web site without using
your Agent. This feature enables you to access
your files while traveling or otherwise away from
the computer on which your Agent is installed.
To use iRoam, some requirements must be met: |
 |
The Data
Center your Agent backs up to must support
iRoam (check with Support). |
 |
Your Agent must
be configured
to use iRoam. |
 |
You must enable
iRoam from within your Agent. |
To access iRoam, you must use the
Web address provided to you by Support. You must also
be ready to provide the following information:
 |
Your account number or email address registered for your account |
 |
Your account's encryption key or password (passwords are optional; however, if you have one, you must use it to access iRoam) |
Roam has a Help system that you can
access for specific instructions while working with
it.
| (c) |
Retrieve files from accounts that have shared
files with you |
| |
If your Agent is configured
appropriately, and if other accounts have
granted you permission, you can retrieve files
backed up to the Data
Center from other Agent accounts. Similarly,
you can enable other accounts to retrieve your
files. This feature can be useful in several situations
such as: |
 |
You are collaborating with others on a project, and need to share updates to files that you are all working on. |
 |
You are on the road with a notebook computer, and need to retrieve files that you backed up from your desktop system at the office. |
 |
You want to exchange files between home and office systems without carrying floppy disks or sending files by email. |
n sharing files with
other accounts, you can share either all files or limit
file sharing to only a specific folder.
To share files, the user of the account being shared
must first grant
the appropriate permissions
for each account that should be granted access.
To access a shared account, the other account users
must first have the shared account's account number,
encryption key, and account password (if applicable).
The other accounts can then access
the shared account's files through their own agent.
If you later remove
file sharing permissions and your account has a
password, you should change
your account password .
| Note
: This feature does not allow access to your computer.
It only allows access to the files that are backed
up on the Data Center . |
